Demonstrate Celebrate
Movie to Premiere in the
Schools this Week Last fall, we had Demonstrate Celebrate week in School District 6. As part of our week of Demonstrating “Celebrate What’s RIGHT with the world” in our schools, we sent our Celebrate co-ordinators and Gretchen Kelbaugh, a local documentary filmmaker, to every school in the district to capture the spirit of Celebrate what’s RIGHT on film. Over the summer, as planned, Gretchen finalized the editing and created a Demonstrate Celebrate DVD. There is a 6 minute, short & sweet version of the movie, that provides a quick glimpse into how the Celebrate what’s RIGHT program has been implemented and embraced by our local schools and school community. And there is the 27 minute movie, with more detail and featuring a more comprehensive look at the many, many activities and examples of what this unique Celebrate what’s RIGHT program looks like in our schools. It is an enjoyable montage, with great music and uplifting, inspirational messages. We anticipate that this Demonstrate Celebrate DVD will be enjoyed not only by the schools who are featured but also by the parents, businesses and community members in the School District 6 area, which is why we are planning a DVD launch into the community during the week following the school launch. There are many audiences beyond our schools and community for the DVD. School District 8 launched Celebrate what’s RIGHT early this year and we will be sharing this DVD with them so they can get even more ideas and see what the Celebrate initiative looks like in our school district. Similarly, we will share our DVD with District 10 and beyond, so other school districts can see the positive effects of this program and possibly consider launching a similar program in their district! I know many of our Celebrate Champions in our schools have told us this DVD will be great to show, on a loop, at events such as parent-teacher nights and other events where the community is connecting with the school. District 6 has approximately 10,340 students in twenty-four schools and two alternate education centers in the communities of Sussex, Sussex Corner, Apohaqui, Norton, Belleisle, Hampton, Kingston, Quispamsis, and Rothesay. There are over 650 teachers in the District, and additional support staff. The district Office is located in Rothesay.
The mission at School District 6 is to work in partnership with parents and the community to create a safe, nurturing learning environment that provides a high quality education which prepares all students to be productive, well-rounded, life-long learners.
